Speaker: Dr Paula Alexandra Silva, Maynooth University
Abstract: Population is ageing. United Nations’ projections forecast that between 2015 and 2030, the number of people in the world aged 60 years or over is projected to grow by 56 per cent, from 901 million to 1.4 billion, and by 2050, the global population of older persons is projected to more than double its size in 2015, reaching nearly 2.1 billion. This demands that we understand what is special about ageing so we can leverage on all its potential. During my talk I will walk
you through my journey towards understanding how to design suitable and purposeful user interfaces for older adults. Later, I will focus on my efforts towards designing user interfaces that promote older adults’ overall health, quality-of-life, and wellbeing and that ultimately will contribute to enable their continued active participation in society.
